A new newsmagazine show, “PrimeTime Monday” (7:00-8:00 p.m., CST) will partner with “Monday Night Football” (8:00 p.m., CST) through January and then “ABC Movie of the Week” will take over.
Tuesday will start out with “8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter” (7:00-7:30 p.m., CST) followed by the new series “I’m With Her” (7:30-8:00 p.m., CST) starring David Sutcliffe (“Gilmore Girls”) and Danny Comden. At 8:00 p.m. and in a new time slot is “According to Jim,” with “Less Than Perfect” closing out the comedy part of Tuesday nights. The very popular police drama “NYPD Blue” returns for its eighth season.
“I’m With Her’ is from the producers of “Smallsville” and is a unique look at a guy dating out of his league. Patrick Owen (David Sutcliffe), a high school teacher, is drinking his mid-morning latte when he’s bitten by Monroe, an easily excited puppy of Alex (Teri Polo), a beautiful movie star. When she tries to apologize Patrick recognizes her famous face and is dumbstruck and bitten by love.
Alex sets her sights on Patrick, but he’s unprepared for the extras that come with the relationship. His anonymity and privacy go up in the flash of a hundred paparazzi cameras. He’s an overnight sensation with his young male students, for reasons that have nothing to do with his brilliant classroom banter.
The writer of this fresh romantic comedy, “I’m With Her” is Chris Henchy and is based on his real life marriage to Brooke Shields. He’s bound to have plenty of funny stories to share with us, so I’m looking forward to seeing this one.
David Sutcliffe who plays Patrick is another reason to give this series a look. You might recognize this charming young man from “Gilmore Girls” in which he plays Christopher, the father of Rory and ex-husband of Lorelai. He can also be seen on “The Division” where he plays Dr, Jonah Michaelson.
“My Wife and Kids” will begin Wednesday nights at 7:00 p.m.; CST followed by a new comedy series “It’s All Relative” at 7:30. Then at 8:00 p.m. the reality joke, Oh, I’m sorry, the reality series “The Bachelor” will return. At 9:00 p.m. a new drama, “Karen Sisco will be presented.
So you think Romeo and Juliet had family issues? Well listen to this one, in the comedy “It’s All Relative,” Bobby’s a bartender, the only son of gregarious, salt-of-the-earth Irish Catholic parents from Boston. Liz is a Toney Harvard student and she’s Protestant (no that’s not the problem). Liz has two dads, not one, and they’re a worldly pair of well-heeled gay men.
The moment Bobby popped the question to Liz; they knew their families would have to meet. And the first time his Mom and Dad together with her Dad and Dad… well, things did not go well. Could be a really funny situation, but I will hold judgment until I review the press tape.
Rounding out Wednesday nights is Carla Gugino who portrays the title character, a classy and hard working federal marshal; in “Karen Sipco” I should also mention she’s smart, sexy and tough. If “Alias” worked maybe this series will too, it sounds like a duplicate except the only man she truly trusts is her father played by Robert Foster.
Based on the character portrayed by Jennifer Lopez in Elmore Leonard’s “out of Sight,” “Karen Sisco” is a rare combination of action and character-drama, with a fresh and original young lead. I love the idea of another women in a lead role, so whatever works.
A new drama will premier on Thursday nights at 7:00 p.m., CST, “Threat Matrix.” Our nation is a target. An attack could come at any time, from anywhere around the globe. Against this rising threat the Homeland Security Agency has created a highly specialized, elite task force trained and equipped to counter anyone or anything that threatens our nation. You just knew more of these types of shows would start popping up after 911and that could be a good thing but I have a feeling that 9:00 p.m. would be a time slot for this series.
“Extreme Makeover” will follow at 8:00 p.m. at a new day and time. “Primetime Thursday” will close the night out at 9:00 p.m.
Friday nights is looking really good if you like comedies. Starting the fun at a new day and night is the “George Lopez” series at 7:00 p.m., CST. Then two new sit-coms make their entrance; “Back to Kansas” at 7:30 p.m. and “Hope and Faith” at 8:00 p.m. “Life with Bonnie” is back at a new day and night with 20/20 finishing up a possibly very successful night for ABC.
“Back to Kansas” stars Breckin Meyer (“Kate and Leopold) as Tom who’s married to Susan (Meredith Monroe). In their marriage everything is relative… everything. Tom’s an only child and quickly learns that Susan’s family is not only larger-than-life, it’s larger than most. Now his toughest challenge is fitting in without freaking out.
I’m really excited about seeing the new series “Hope and Faith,” I love Kelly Ripa on “Live with Regis and Kelly” and am pulling for her to use some of her magic on this show. She co-stars with Faith Ford (“Murphy Brown”) who plays her sister. “Hope and Faith” is a comedy about what happens when the fast lane collides with the carpool lane. It’s about the moments that make you want to hug your sister and the times you want to write her out of your life. I haven’t seen this show yet but am really looking forward to reviewing it.
“The Wonderful World of Disney” has found a new day and time on Saturdays at 7:00-9:00 p.m., CST. This is great news for stay at home families, finally something to watch on Saturdays and not have to worry about the content. Then when the kiddies go to bed the parents can sit back and watch “L.A. Dragnet” at 9:00 p.m.,which has a new title and day.
“America’s Funny Home Videos” has a new day and time on Sundays at 6:00 p.m, CST followed by a new drama series, “10-8.” Then at 8:00 p.m., one of my favorite shows “Alias” charges in and all time favorite “The Practice” returns at a new day and time; 9:00 p.m., making Sunday a night not to miss.
“10-8” a one hour drama about Brooklyn bad boy Rico Amonte (Danny Nucci) who was sliding into a life of crime. Then his policeman brother caught him in the act and hauled him off to Southern California to get him straight and narrow. Two years later, Rico is a graduate of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s academy. I’m not a fan of police shows but this one sounds like a fun show to watch.
Until my next column let your voice be heard.
