The 7th Band & Stephen Collins perform at “14 Below”

The last evening most of our fantastic trip Viewers Voice went out eat at a fancy restaurant before going over to a bar, “14 Below,” in Santa Monica, to hear Stephen Collins & The 7th Band perform. On the set of “7th Heaven” I mentioned to Mr. Collins that we heard he was performing with his band and we had thoughts of going over and seeing him. He had offered to get us free passes if we decided to come.

When we arrived at “14 Below” the free passes were waiting for us and we went in to this nice classy smoke free bar and was greeted with a hug by Stephen’s wife Faye Grant. She was nice enough to get us a couple of chairs to sit on in an already crowed area with standing room only. We were seated right down in front where Ms. Grant joined us.

I had the pleasure of having dinner a couple of time with Stephen and Faye at our Viewers Voice Banquets where they have both won our awards; Ms. Grant for “State of Grace” and of course Mr. Collins for “7th Heaven.” They are the nicest couple you’d ever want to meet. Very sincere and loving people and they always make you feel like old friends.

When Stephen and The 7th Band appeared on stage the crowd applauded enthusiastically. What can I say they were great and had the audience in the palm of their hands. They played some hand picked rock’n roll and doo-wop classics; my kind of music.

On stage Stephen had a guitarist playing next to him that I kept thinking I’ve seen that fellow before but from where? Then Stephen made a comment about the 1970 series “The Walton” and called him Jason. Sure enough it was Jon Walmsly, Jason Walton; matured into a good looking man and great on the guitar. Jason was the musical one of the Walton family, but I had no idea he was such a talented musician in real life. He played in a rock band following the run of “The Walton’s.”

It was such a pleasure listening to Stephen sing, he has such a beautiful voice and the charisma to go with it. I was glued to the stage and loving every minute of it and so was everyone in the room.

After the show we said our good byes to Faye and Stephen who was out in back of the club talking to his many fans. The highlight of my week was a goodbye hug and kiss from him.

The next morning we caught our flight back to Milwaukee. It was such fantastic trip and so stress free that Viewers Voice may consider not having another convention; just business trips. We actually get more work accomplished and it sure is more relaxing. Until my next column, let your voice be heard.
